DAB Football Pool Support Guide

Complete documentation for using the DAB Football Pool application. Find answers to common questions and learn how to make the most of all features.

Getting Started

Creating Your Account

  1. Registration: Click "Register" on the login page and fill out the required information
  2. Email Verification: Check your email for a verification link and click it to activate your account
  3. First Login: Return to the site and log in with your credentials

Joining a Pool

You must be invited to join a pool by a pool administrator.
  • You'll receive an email invitation with a link to join
  • Click the invitation link and follow the prompts
  • If you don't have an account yet, you'll be prompted to create one first

Dashboard Overview

After logging in, your dashboard shows:

  • Current Week Picks: Games available for picking this week
  • Pool Messages: Important announcements from administrators
  • Weekly Leaderboard: Current week standings (if enabled)
  • Season Leaderboard: Overall season standings (if enabled)
  • Pool Selector: Switch between multiple pools if you're in more than one

Making Picks

How to Make Picks

  1. Navigate to "Games & Picks" from the main menu
  2. You'll see all games for the current week with team matchups
  3. Click on the team you think will win each game
  4. Enter your Monday Night Tiebreaker (total points scored in Monday's game)
  5. Your picks are saved automatically as you make them
Important: You cannot change picks after games have started. Make sure to submit your picks before kickoff!

Pick Status Indicators

  • ? Correct Pick: You picked the winning team
  • ? Incorrect Pick: You picked the losing team
  • ?? Locked: Game has started, picks cannot be changed
  • ?? Open: You can still make or change your pick

Monday Night Tiebreaker

The tiebreaker is used to break ties in weekly standings:

  • Enter the total combined points you think will be scored in Monday Night Football
  • The person closest to the actual total wins tiebreakers
  • This is especially important for weekly prizes or close standings

Viewing Other Weeks

  • Use the week selector dropdown to view past or future weeks
  • You can only make picks for the current week and sometimes the next week
  • Past weeks show your results and the correct answers

Print Your Pick Sheet

Click the "Print Picks" button to generate a PDF of your picks for offline reference.

Account Settings

Accessing Your Profile

Click your name in the top-right corner and select "Profile" to access your account settings.

Profile Settings

  • Display Name: How your name appears in leaderboards and to other users
  • First/Last Name: Your real name (optional)
  • Email Reminders: Enable/disable weekly reminder emails
  • Team Display Preference: Choose to see team names or city names
  • Timezone: Automatically detected but can be manually set

Pool-Specific Display Names

You can set different display names for each pool you're in:

  • This is useful if you want different identities in different pools
  • Your display name must be unique within each pool
  • This affects how you appear in leaderboards for that specific pool

Email History

View a history of all emails sent to you by the system, including:

  • Weekly reminder emails
  • Pool invitation emails
  • System notifications

Password Management

  • Change your password from the profile page
  • Use "Forgot Password" on the login page if you can't remember it
  • Password reset links expire after 24 hours

Leaderboards

Note: Leaderboard visibility depends on your pool's settings. Pool administrators can always see leaderboards.

Types of Leaderboards

Weekly Leaderboard
  • Shows standings for a specific week
  • Based on number of correct picks that week
  • Monday Night Tiebreaker used to break ties
  • Resets each week
Season Leaderboard
  • Shows overall standings for the entire season
  • Cumulative total of all correct picks
  • Multiple tiebreaker systems may apply
  • Updated after each week's games are completed

Understanding the Scoring

  • Wins: Number of correct picks
  • Losses: Number of incorrect picks
  • Win Percentage: Wins divided by total games picked
  • Rank: Your position compared to other pool members

Viewing Options

  • Switch between weekly and season views using the tabs
  • Select different weeks using the week dropdown
  • Switch between pools using the pool selector in the navigation

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

  • Check if games have already started (picks lock at kickoff)
  • Ensure you have a stable internet connection
  • Try refreshing the page and making picks again
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies
  • Make sure JavaScript is enabled in your browser
  • Leaderboards may be disabled by your pool administrator
  • Check if you're in the correct pool (use the pool selector)
  • Some pools only show leaderboards to administrators
  • Contact your pool administrator for clarification
  • Go to your Profile and check your timezone setting
  • The system should auto-detect your timezone, but you can manually set it
  • Refresh the Games page after updating your timezone
  • Clear your browser cache if times still appear incorrect
  • Make sure you have an account first (register if needed)
  • Check that the invitation link hasn't expired
  • Ensure you're using the same email address the invitation was sent to
  • Try copying and pasting the full invitation URL
  • Contact the pool administrator to resend the invitation
  • Double-check your email address and password
  • Use "Forgot Password" if you can't remember your password
  • Make sure your account email has been verified
  • Check your spam folder for verification emails
  • Try a different browser or incognito/private mode
  • Clear your browser cookies and cache

Pool Administrator Guide

Features and responsibilities for pool administrators

Administrator Overview

Admin Privileges: Pool administrators have special permissions and responsibilities. Use these features carefully.

What Pool Administrators Can Do

User Management
  • Invite new members to the pool
  • Remove members from the pool
  • Promote other members to admin status
  • Track member payment status
  • Resend or revoke invitations
Pool Management
  • Configure pool settings
  • Enable/disable leaderboards
  • Send pool-wide messages
  • View all member picks and results
  • Override member picks if needed

Admin Responsibilities

  • Fair Play: Ensure all members follow pool rules
  • Communication: Keep members informed of important updates
  • Payment Tracking: Monitor who has paid for the season
  • Pick Management: Only override picks when absolutely necessary
  • Privacy: Respect member privacy and pick confidentiality

Admin Navigation

As an administrator, you'll see additional options:

  • Pool Details: Access pool management from "My Pools"
  • Admin Actions: Quick action buttons for common admin tasks
  • Enhanced Leaderboards: See leaderboards even if disabled for members

Managing Pools

Creating a New Pool

  1. Go to "My Pools" in the main navigation
  2. Click "Create New Pool"
  3. Enter a unique pool name
  4. Configure leaderboard visibility settings
  5. Click "Create Pool"
  6. You'll automatically become the administrator

Pool Details Page

Access by clicking "Details" next to any pool you administer. This page shows:

  • Pool Information: Name, creation date, settings
  • Member List: All pool members with their status
  • Pending Invitations: Outstanding invitations that haven't been accepted
  • Pool Statistics: Overall pool performance metrics
  • Quick Actions: Common administrative tasks

Member Management

Viewing Members
  • See all current pool members
  • View their join dates and status
  • Check payment status for each member
  • Identify other administrators
Promoting/Demoting Administrators
  • Click "Promote to Admin" next to a member's name
  • Use "Remove Admin" to demote existing administrators
  • You cannot remove your own admin status
  • Pools should have at least one administrator
Removing Members
Warning: Removing a member cannot be undone. They will lose all their picks and standings.
  • Click "Remove" next to a member's name
  • Confirm the removal in the popup dialog
  • The member will be immediately removed from the pool
  • Their picks and history will be preserved but hidden

Payment Tracking

Track which members have paid their pool fees:

  • Toggle the "Paid" status for each member
  • This is for tracking only - no money is collected through the system
  • Use this to ensure everyone has paid before the season starts
  • You can mark users as paid when inviting them

Inviting Users

How to Invite New Members

  1. Go to the Pool Details page for your pool
  2. Click "Invite Members" in the Quick Actions section
  3. Enter email addresses for people you want to invite
  4. Optionally mark them as "Paid" if they've already paid fees
  5. Click "Send Invitations"

Invitation Process

  • Email Sent: Each invitee receives an email with a unique invitation link
  • Account Creation: If they don't have an account, they'll be prompted to create one
  • Pool Joining: Once they have an account, they can accept the invitation
  • Automatic Addition: They're automatically added to your pool upon acceptance

Managing Pending Invitations

On the Pool Details page, you can:

  • View Status: See who has accepted and who hasn't
  • Resend: Send the invitation email again
  • Revoke: Cancel an invitation before it's accepted
  • Check Expiration: Invitations may expire after a certain time

Best Practices for Invitations

  • Send invitations well before the season starts
  • Include pool rules and payment information in a separate email
  • Follow up with people who haven't accepted invitations
  • Make sure you have the correct email addresses
  • Consider sending a welcome message after they join

Troubleshooting Invitation Issues

  • Check that you entered the correct email address
  • Ask them to check their spam/junk folder
  • Try resending the invitation
  • Verify their email provider isn't blocking emails

Managing Picks Admin Only

Use With Caution: Pick overrides should only be used for legitimate corrections or technical issues. Always document the reason.

Accessing Pick Management

  1. Go to Pool Details for any pool you administer
  2. Click "Manage Picks" in the Quick Actions section
  3. Select the week and optionally a specific user
  4. View all picks for that week

Override Capabilities

  • Change Picks: Modify any user's team selection
  • Update Tiebreakers: Change Monday Night Tiebreaker values
  • Post-Game Changes: Make changes even after games have started/finished
  • Reason Tracking: All overrides require a reason that's permanently logged

When to Use Pick Overrides

Legitimate Reasons
  • User had technical difficulties submitting
  • User contacted you with picks before deadline
  • System error prevented pick submission
  • User was traveling/unavailable due to emergency
Do NOT Override For
  • User forgot to make picks
  • User wants to change picks after games started
  • User is unhappy with their results
  • Personal favors or advantages

How to Override Picks

  1. In the Pick Management view, find the user and game
  2. Click on the pick you want to change
  3. Select the new team choice
  4. Enter a detailed reason for the override
  5. Confirm the change

Override Audit Trail

All pick overrides are permanently logged with:

  • Which administrator made the change
  • When the change was made
  • What the original pick was
  • What it was changed to
  • The reason provided

Viewing All Pool Picks

The Pick Management view also allows you to:

  • See who has/hasn't made picks for the week
  • View everyone's picks for completed games
  • Filter by specific users
  • Navigate between different weeks
  • Export pick data (if available)

Pool Settings Admin Only

Accessing Pool Settings

Pool settings can be modified from the Pool Details page by clicking "Edit Settings" or similar options.

Basic Pool Configuration

  • Pool Name: Change the display name of your pool
  • Creation Info: View when the pool was created and by whom
  • Member Count: See current membership statistics

Leaderboard Settings

Control what leaderboards your pool members can see:

Weekly Leaderboard
  • Enabled: Members can see weekly standings
  • Disabled: Only administrators can view weekly results
  • Affects the "Leaderboards" menu visibility for members
Season Leaderboard
  • Enabled: Members can see overall season standings
  • Disabled: Only administrators can view season results
  • Affects the dashboard display for members
Note: Even if leaderboards are disabled for members, administrators can always view them. This allows for private scoring pools.

Pool Messages

Send announcements and updates to all pool members:

  • Create messages that appear on member dashboards
  • Set start and end dates for message visibility
  • Choose whether to send as email notifications
  • Mark messages as high priority if needed

Pool Archiving/Deactivation

For pools that are no longer active:

  • Mark pools as inactive to hide them from active lists
  • Inactive pools preserve all historical data
  • Members can still view past results
  • No new picks can be made in inactive pools

Best Practices for Pool Settings

  • Leaderboard Visibility: Consider your pool's competitiveness and member preferences
  • Communication: Use pool messages for important announcements
  • Privacy: Some pools prefer private scoring until the end
  • Season Management: Archive old pools at the end of each season
